Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to ride a camel?

Yes. The guides are experienced, the camels are well trained and the routes are chosen according to the weather and your comfort. Always follow your guide’s instructions.

What should I pack for the camel tour?

A scarf or light turban for sand and wind
Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat
Comfortable clothes (long trousers, layers)
A small backpack, a water bottle and a torch
A camera or phone with a spare battery

What types of tent are available?

You can choose between:
Standard tents: basic, with shared bathrooms.
Luxury tents: private showers, toilets, electricity and beds with real linen.

Is the camel ride suitable for children and older travellers?

Yes, but we recommend checking:
The length of the camel ride
The comfort of the tents
Your physical ability to get on and off the camel

What is the best time of year for camel trekking in Merzouga?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the best weather.
Winter (December to February): cold at night but with beautiful skies.
Summer (June to August): very hot, so camel excursions usually take place only at sunrise or sunset.

What happens if there is a sandstorm in August?

August is very hot and a sandstorm is possible. If the evening conditions make sleeping among the dunes unwise, we put you up in a hotel instead of the camp. We tell you as soon as we know, not at the last minute.
