12-day tour from Casablanca: imperial cities, the Sahara and Essaouira

Duration
12 days
Departure from
Casablanca
Type
Private
Price
from 600 €

Description

Twelve days as a loop, Casablanca to Casablanca, with one difference you feel: the desert gets two nights instead of one. The first is under canvas at Mouhou Camp in Erg Chebbi, the second in a riad with a pool at Merzouga, after a day spent around the dunes.

That day is the most unusual stretch of the route: a 4x4 run out to the abandoned mining village of M’Fis, then Khamlia for its gnawa music and mint tea in a nomad family’s tent. Before it come Rabat on arrival day, Chefchaouen, Volubilis and Meknes along the way, and a full day in Fes with a local guide, from the Al-Qarawiyyin University to the Chouara tanneries.

Out of the desert the road climbs through the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley, crosses the High Atlas and reaches Marrakech for two nights. The ending is on the ocean: a night in Essaouira, among Portuguese ramparts, medina and beach, then about four and a half hours of driving to a last night in Casablanca.

It is the right itinerary if you want the Sahara unhurried and a couple of slow days by the sea. Breakfasts are always included; dinners are covered at the camp, at the Merzouga riad and in the Dades Gorge, while in the cities the restaurant is your choice.

Tour itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Casablanca > Rabat:

Welcome to Morocco! Your 12-day tour begins with a warm welcome at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca. Our local guide will meet you and make sure your trip starts smoothly. At the wheel for all twelve days is one of our own drivers: Ahmed, Omar or another of the team, all Moroccan and with years of these roads behind them.
First we visit the imposing Hassan II Mosque, known for its beautiful tilework, marble details and stunning ocean views. It has one of the tallest minarets in the world.
Next we head to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. You explore famous sites such as the Hassan Tower and the Kasbah of the Udayas, learning more about Moroccan history and culture.
At the end of the day we take you to your hotel in Rabat to relax and prepare for tomorrow. If you arrive late in the evening, we take you straight to a hotel in Casablanca to rest before the tour begins the next day.
