How much does a trip to Morocco cost?
Up-to-date indicative prices to plan your trip to Morocco without surprises: from private tours to a night in the desert.
Morocco is an affordable destination, but the cost of a trip varies a lot depending on the season, the type of accommodation and how you travel. Here are real prices, broken down by category, plus three sample budgets.
How much does the flight to Morocco cost?
From Italy, direct flights to Marrakech, Fes, Casablanca and Tangier start at around 60-80 € return with low-cost airlines if booked a few months ahead. In high season (Easter, July, August, Christmas and New Year) the price often rises to 200-350 €.
The cost of tours and transport
A private tour with a driver includes the vehicle, fuel, tolls and accommodation, and the price per person falls as the number of participants rises.

| 2-day excursion from Marrakech to the Zagora desert | from 90 € per person |
| 3-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga | from 150 € per person |
| 4-day tour from Fes to Marrakech | from 220 € per person |
| 8-day imperial cities tour | from 400 € per person |
| 15-day tour across Morocco | from 750 € per person |
| Car hire with a driver | from 150 € per day |
| Casablanca-Marrakech train (2nd class) | about 10 € |

How to save without missing out
- Travel in low season, between November and February or in June: lower prices and fewer tourists.
- Travel in a group of at least two or three: the cost of a private tour is shared and drops considerably per person.
- Book peak periods early, when the best riads sell out quickly.
- Eat where Moroccans eat: you spend a third as much and eat better food.
- Bargain in the souks calmly and with a smile: the first price is almost always negotiable.
- Withdraw dirhams locally rather than changing money in Italy, where the rate is less favourable.
How much cash to bring
The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD) and it cannot be taken out of the country. Credit cards are accepted in hotels, tourist restaurants and supermarkets; in the souks, taxis and villages you need cash. With 30-40 € a day in cash you cover meals, tips and small purchases.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a one-week trip to Morocco cost on average?
For 8 days, excluding flights, a traveller spends on average between 600 and 1,200 € with a private tour in a double room, good-quality accommodation and half board. With simpler accommodation the cost drops below 600 €, while with luxury riads and camps it goes above 1,500 €.
Is it better to book a private tour or travel independently?
Distances in Morocco are long and public transport does not reach the desert. A private tour usually costs a little more than a do-it-yourself trip with a hire car, but it includes the driver, fuel, tolls and support. For short stays or long itineraries a private tour is almost always better value.
How much should I budget per day for food?
In a local restaurant a tagine costs 5-8 €, a full meal 10-15 € and a coffee or tea 1-2 €. In tourist restaurants and hotels prices double. With 20-25 € a day you can eat well anywhere.
How much does it cost to sleep in the Merzouga desert?
A night in a standard camp with dinner and breakfast starts at 20 € per person in a quadruple tent (35 € in a double tent); a luxury camp with a private bathroom starts at 40 € per person (50 € in a double tent). Camel, quad and 4×4 excursions are paid separately.
How much do you tip in Morocco?
Tipping is not compulsory but it is customary: 2-3 € for a porter or waiter, 5-10 € a day for the driver and 10-20 € for a local guide at the end of the day, depending on how satisfied you are.
